Job Description
Mission: Our mission is to raise awareness about the importance of sharks, skates, rays and chimaeras in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. By producing engaging content, hosting informative events and facilitating new research, we aim to move the needle in South African marine conservation.
Location: Remote
Time Commitment: 5-7 hours per week
Position Summary:
We are looking for a passionate and creative individual to join our team as Social Media Manager. In this volunteer role, you will be responsible for managing our organisation’s presence on various social media platforms to engage with the public and raise awareness about shark conservation and marine ecosystems. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to gain practical experience in social media management while contributing to a meaningful cause.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a social media strategy to promote our organisation’s mission and increase engagement with our target audience.
- Coordinate the creation and curation of engaging content related to sharks, marine conservation, and environmental issues for posting on social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
- Monitor social media channels for trends, news, and relevant conversations related to marine conservation and sharks, and respond or amplify where appropriate.
- Facilitate engagement with our followers by responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborate with other team members to brainstorm and execute social media campaigns, contests, and initiatives to further our outreach goals.
- Track and analyze key social media metrics to assess the effectiveness of our efforts and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Passion for marine conservation and environmental sustainability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Creativity and ability to think outside the box when planning or creating content.
- Basic understanding of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Canva, LinkedIn).
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and strategies.
- Prior experience in social media management is advantageous but not required.
